Ellington Racing tops Championship point standings
July 28th, 2008 -

Ellington Racing and driver Ray Ellington Jr. sit on top of the points standings in the Trailers of the East Coast Grand Stock Division at the fastest 3/8 mile track in the world, Orange County Speeday in Rougemont, N.C.

"There is still a lot of racing left to go this year, we just have to keep our heads in it and keep doing what we have been doing all year getting consistant top 5's and see what happens at the end," explained Ray Ellington Jr., driver of the family owned bright red #11 Monte Carlo.

The 12th year driver is quick to point out newly aquired sponsor and long time friend Brian Lowman, owner of Performance Builders of Evington, Va., is a major reason they are experiencing the great season. "He is one of the reasons we are even in this position to achieve a life long dream and reward my crew for all these years of hard work and sacrifice. I want it for them really bad, and am doing everything in my power to give them this to celebrate. Being called a Champion is big, no matter how you look at it."

The team has piled up some impressive numbers this season with 7 top five finishes in the first 8 races. With the only finish out of the top 5 coming on a somewhat controversial call by the officials resulting in a black flag penalty which relegated the team to finishing one lap down and out of the hunt for the win while sitting in the 3rd spot for most of that race. "It was a judgement call that did not go our way, the officials thought I jumped the start on a restart when actually the car in front of me missed a shift or something and I turned left to keep from pilling the whole field up on the front stretch. But they saw it different, it is what it is, can't do anything about it but keep working hard and see where that gets us."

The team is working hard preparing for the next event on Saturday night August 2nd as they tear up the 2nd half of the schedule rolling towards the season finale in October. A point at which Ellington hopes to fulfill a lifelong dream of hoisting a large trophy and more importantly the right to be called a Champion.
